Is Your Home Ready for Holiday Guests?
Thanksgiving is a few weeks out, and if family or friends are coming to your house, you don't want them to form an opinion before they ever step inside. The first thing guests see is the outside of your home: the siding, the driveway, the walkway up to the front door. A clean exterior says welcome in a way no wreath on the door can match.
Here in the Midlands, summer is rough on a house. Months of humidity leave mildew on siding, especially on the shaded sides of the home. Oak leaves drop and stain driveways and walkways with brown tannin marks that set in deeper the longer they sit. Pollen, dirt, and a whole season of buildup dull everything. None of that cleans itself, and once winter sets in, whatever is dirty now sits that way until spring.
A fall cleaning before the holidays fixes all of it in one visit. Here is what to think about before guests arrive.
Start with the siding
Siding is the biggest surface on your home, so it makes the biggest difference. Green mildew and gray buildup make a house look tired even when the inside is spotless. A proper house wash lifts that off without damaging the siding, and the whole place looks years newer. If you only do one thing before guests arrive, this is the one.
Do not forget the driveway and walkways
Guests park in the driveway and walk up the path to your door, so those surfaces get a close look. Leaf stains, dark buildup, and dingy concrete stand out, especially against a clean house. Driveway and walkway cleaning brings concrete back to its actual color, and it also clears the slippery buildup that collects on shaded paths.
Gutter brightening finishes the look
Streaked, stained gutters drag down an otherwise clean exterior. Gutter brightening removes those dark streaks from the outside of the gutters and pairs naturally with a house wash. It is a small job that makes the whole exterior read as finished rather than half done.
Decks and patios count too
If guests will spend any time outside, even just stepping onto the back patio, give it the same attention. A season of grime makes decks slippery and stained. A fall cleaning gets the outdoor space ready for an evening outside, and it protects the surface going into winter.
Why now and not later
Two reasons. First, the booking window is short. Once temperatures drop, exterior cleaning season cuts down until spring, and the spots before the holidays go first. Second, buildup left over winter does not pause. Mildew keeps working on siding, stains keep setting into concrete, and everything you meant to clean in November is still there in March, only harder to remove.
What a visit looks like
A typical holiday ready visit covers the house wash, driveway and walkway cleaning, and gutter brightening, with a deck or patio added if you want it. You do not need to be home the whole time, and the work is done in one visit. Before we arrive, it helps to close the windows, move cars off the driveway, and clear anything leaning against the house.
Get on the schedule
If guests are coming and the outside of your home is not how you want them to see it, now is the time. We are booking the next two weeks, and the spots before Thanksgiving will fill.
